Face coverings (medical face mask, cloth mask, face shield) can reduce the spread of COVID-19 when people use it in public settings. Simple cloth face coverings can be made at home and may help prevent the spread of COVID-19. If you lack sewing skills or just want a quick way to make a face mask with materials at home, we’ve got you covered.
As long as you have the following, you’ll have everything you need to make your own face mask:
- Bandana, old t-shirt, or square cotton cloth (cut approximately 20”x20”)
- scissors
- rubber bands or hair ties
- ruler or tape measure
Tutorial:
- Fold Bandana in half
- Try to fold top down.
- Fold bottom up.
- Place rubber bands or hair ties about 6 inches apart.
- Fold side to the middle and tuck.
Make sure your cloth face covering:
- fits snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- completely covers the nose and mouth
- secured with ties or ear loops
- includes multiple layers of fabric
- allows for breathing without restriction
