Hand sanitizers have both good and bad sides

Hand sanitizer can be seen everywhere these days in groceries, offices, malls, and most public places. The small portable bottles have become a must have for many to carry in their purses or cars. Keeping our hands clean helps prevent the spread of disease, but hand sanitizers have both good and bad sides.

The cons of hand sanitizer:
  • Can’t be used on grime: Hand sanitizer is no substitute for soap and water when needing to remove any bodily fluids, grease, dirt or blood from hands.
  • Weakens immunity to germs: Some researchers say that frequent use of hand sanitizer will cause a resistance to both good and bad bacteria. It could hurt your immune system in fighting off infections. 
  • Adverse impact on skin: The alcohols most commonly found in hand sanitizers are isopropyl, ethanol, and n-propanol, which can make skin dry and also cause irritation. 

The pros of hand sanitizer:

• Stop the spread of germs: alcohol’s ability in hand sanitizer to kill germs and bacteria. They also prevent the spread of viruses at schools and other places.

• Convenient: We can buy hand sanitizers in almost all stores such as groceries, gas stations, mall,…

• It’s cost effective and long lasting: Most hand sanitizers are relatively inexpensive and have a shelf life of 2-3 years. This can make less of a need for frequent purchases.

  • Softer – feeling hands: Some hand sanitizers contain emollients that soften your skin, giving you nicer-looking and smoother hands. 

Health authorities maintain traditional washing is still the best method amid the Coronavirus pandemic. However, there are many benefits of hand sanitizer, from fighting germs efficiently to fighting them conveniently. Manufacturers are already coming up with new delivery systems for these products. In addition to the popular gels, the product is now available in foam and misting spray.
